The Canadian Grand Prix has been a Formula 1 race since 1967 when it was staged at Mosport Park in Ontario. It was in 1978 when it moved to its current location in Montreal. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve finds itself on Ile Notre-Dame, in the middle of the Saint Lawrence river that flows through the city of Montreal. The circuit (named in honour of the Canadian driver) is famous for the "Wall of Champions”, a chicane situated at the end of a kilometre long straight where many drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill or Jacques Villeneuve have crashed. The cars are constantly accelerating and braking causing high tyre degradation, especially on rear tyres. | ||
